SFIP 2024 Conference: Advances in Sustainable Plastics

On May 22 and 23, the SFIP Plastics and Environment 2024 conference was held in Douai, organized by the French Society of Plastics Engineers in collaboration with IMT Nord Europe. For the first time, EuraMaterials was invited to join the scientific committee to select the speakers for these two days and chaired the first session of the conference alongside Decathlon. During the two-day conference, experts in plastics and the environment presented technological advances and solutions aimed at reducing the environmental impact of plastics.

This cross-sector event served as a key gathering point for major players in the plastics industry, who came together to discuss innovations and strategies related to sustainable development and the circular economy. Discussions covered various sectors such as transportation, packaging, and energy with a clear objective: to promote eco-friendly solutions in the plastics industry, whether in terms of PIR (post-industrial recycled), PCR (post-consumer recycled), or bioplastics.

Discussions were at the heart of this event, highlighting innovative solutions to reduce the environmental impact of plastics. Among the topics discussed, the concept of mass balance was widely endorsed by both the panelists and the audience.

Alongside this event, several exhibition booths hosted companies and researchers, providing a dedicated space for demonstrations and in-depth discussions. These spaces allowed participants to discover new technologies and products.

The success of #PNE2024 underscores the importance of collaboration among the various stakeholders in the plastics industry to achieve shared goals of sustainability and innovation. By sharing knowledge and inspiring new initiatives, this event has paved the way for a greener and more responsible future for the plastics industry, and as a famous Danish band once said: “Life in plastic, it’s fantastic.”
