Lab3P

Lab3P is reinventing barrier packaging with bio-based, printable, and 100% recyclable materials .
Through targeted functional printing, the project transforms paper into a high-performance, lightweight packaging solution compatible with industrial production lines.
This major breakthrough offers the food, cosmetics, and gardening sectors a concrete alternative to plastic packaging, whereecology, efficiency, and innovation come together to accelerate the transition to a circular economy.
Results and Achievements
Major Innovations
Bio-based heat-sealable paper with barrier properties (light, vapor, grease), as a substitute for PE-aluminum laminates. Targeted printing process that reduces material usage.
Economic impacts
Launch of the Cycle Pack range by Malengé Packaging, with a 15–40% reduction in packaging weight compared to plastic or aluminum equivalents. Compatibility with existing industrial lines, facilitating rapid market adoption.
Scientific impacts
Definition of a shared technology roadmap between the Technical Paper Center (CTP) and Malengé Packaging, notably incorporating the optimization of barrier components.
Key aspects of the project:
Coordinator: Centre Technique du Papier (CTP)
Partners: Malengé Packaging
Project years: 2015–2018
Funding source: LabCom (joint laboratory) ANR
Funding amount: €1 .4 million
